So simple, so tasty

serves 4 generous portions

syns per serving

  • 2.5 syns on extra easy
  • 2.5 syns on green

  • 1 can of chickpeas partly drained
  • 28g/1oz Tahina paste
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • large pinch of salt
  • pepper to taste

put all ingriedients in a bowl and mix with a hand blender until smooth.

serve with a salad.

Notes:

  • The salt is very important in this recipe. It simply will not taste right if you do not add enough. If you are on a low salt diet, then leave the salt out of a different meal rather than leaving it out of this.
  • The chickpeas should be partially drained, as some liquid is need in the mix. Experiment with the amount of water you drain from the can each time you make it until you find a consistency you like.
  • Tahina paste is ground sesame seed paste. It is available from Asian and Middle Eastern shops, and can sometimes be found in the big supermarkets. Do not confuse this with the Tahini sauce served with kebabs, although Tahini sauce is made from almost the same ingredients. Houmous is effectively Tahini sauce with chickpeas added!
